What is a Gantt chart?

A Gantt chart is a bar chart which shows the illustration of the schedule of your proposed activities, it enables you to evaluate the time schedule of your proposed business activities, it is essential to use Gantt chart as it will enable you to ascertain the gap between your proposed activities and your actual activities, it will also enable you to measure your performances with time

How can Gantt chart help your project?

A Gantt chart basically enables you to see the different activities that are lined up for the successful execution of your project, it shows how each activity begins and how it ends, detailing how each of the activity will last; how the entire activity starts and ends. Gantt chart shows specific and as well as additional information of the various tasks and phases of the project, Gantt chart will also help you to know the progress of your project and let you also be aware of the position of your project, should in case it is failing or meeting up with expectations.

Other functions of Gantt charts are

Motivation: Gantt chart will boost your morale towards the job that you are doing, it will enable you develop efficiently towards achieving your organizational objectives, it enables you to focus towards your goals.

Communication: Gantt chart can enable you to communicate with the key person which in turn, will enhance quality as time is not wasted on communicating with the wrong person

efficiency: work will be disseminated efficiently and each member on the Gantt chart will account for the work assigned to him/her, this will ensure efficiency in all the parts of the working process.

Accountability: Gantt charts enables you to know who has fault in your project process, accountability will also enable you to quickly make corrections  by calling the person to order or replacing the person.

Flexibility: you can easily remove a task or replace a task on your Gantt chart, you can also relocate a task, Gantt chart enables flexibility of tasks.

Management of time: Gantt chart will enable you to be able to manage your time efficiently, it will let you weigh your achievements with speculated time, and allow you to be more time conscious, which will in turn enable you to operate your project efficiently.

Gantt chart however, has limitations which you have to consider when undergoing your project, some of which are:


  • Gantt charts can sometimes become very confusing if there are too many adjustments, it could also be very hard to interpret especially if it is not written by the person carrying out the tasks.
  •  Gantt chart does not really focus on the work breakdown, it only focuses on work activities

in conclusion, Gantt chart will enable you to have control over your project, and will help you oversee your project, go and succeed!!!
