How To Start Freelancing

Freelancing is a method of  self employment that affiliates you to a firm, or business organization on short term basis. In this system, you do not have to be a full time employee to do what you have to do. It has enabled people who have special skills and talents, to practice, and yet keep some other jobs. However, others have used freelancing to achieve certain career goals. Your success as a freelancer, does not depend on academic qualification, but your ability to utilize your potentials.

The question of success.

The basic concern of anyone who has thought of freelancing, has been. Am I going to make it? The concern is reasonable,  but when it's become your prerogative, your success is in danger. There are other things to focus on.

Your field of play.

People freelance on so many things.

Writing.

Education.

Photography.

Designing.

Film animation.

Video editing.

Engineering.

Private investigation.

Event management.

Political consultancy.

Translation/interpretation.

Web designing, etc.

Whatever your field of play is, the important thing is to know all about it. Developing a skill that will attract lucrative attention, requires constant practice. And that is what you should spend your time on. Your expertise is the milestone of success.

Build a box of creativity.

Do not be in a hurry to make money, take time to make a portfolio of your works. Those who will need your services wouldn't ask you; where did you school? They would ask you; what have you done before? Open your portfolio and show them from your previous works, that you are capable and ready to work.

Promote your work.

Over 50% of freelancers are hired based on recommendation. You cannot be recommended if you are not known. Therefore, promote your work however, tell people around, look for people who share the same interest with you online, and interact with them. Use the social media to reach as many people as you could. The more people know of your capability, the more chances you have to excel.

The money not coming yet?

It takes a while, and a lot of pro bonos, for you to fall into the square of freelance money. You will have to do a lot of free works to get noticed by interested persons. Do not be discouraged at this period of spending your personal resources and time. There is always a sacrifice to make for something better.

Don't quit your job.

If you have a job, keep it. Do whatever you have to do about your freelance at your spare time. It will be very disappointing to quit your job, when you are not sure of the success of your freelance endeavor. A lot of people who do freelancing have a full time job. So it is always better to let the size of the success influence that decision.

 Create a website.

Another practical way to distinguish yourself from others is a website. People go online, looking for information on whatsoever. They could only find you, if you are there. Developing a website to suit your concept will give you the opportunity to exhibit your work, to attract  lucrative interest, and to keep a notable testimonial portfolio.

Get better.

Learn from your lapses, and the works of others, relating to your field. Join online fora, and share your works,  difficulties, with those who can help. When you are hired, it would not be difficult for you to do any of your works. Your experience would have measured up enough, to help you do your job.
