The father of entrepreneurs in Africa and the 23rd richest man in the world. According to Forbes magazines of the world richest people on earth, he made his money through chains of businesses in Nigeria, Togo, Benin, Ghana, South Africa, Zambia, Cameroon and some other African countries. Aliko Dangote sits at the apex with a net worth of $25 billion in March 2014 and operates a multi-billion conglomerate. In an interview with him he said “I never use my father’s money to get to the top, I create my own idea and work hard.” He never relied on inheritance, rather he worked hard. His passion for business started at a tender age. He buys and sells candies to make money, after his education he went to Lagos and there he started and became what he is today.
2. Johnna Peter Rupet
Is the chairman of the Swiss based luxury goods and the second richest man in Africa, he is the oldest son of South African business tycoon –Anton Rupert. He grew up in Stellenbosch and had his education in the same town though he drop out to pursue his business career. He is the owner of Swiss based Compagine Finaciere Richemont with branch in Cartier, Van Cleef and Arpels, Jaeger-LeCoultre and Montblanc and. He also owned he is estimated to worth $8.2 billion dollars in April 10th 2014
3. Nicky F. Oppenheimer
A dynamic entrepreneur and chairman of de beers consolidated mines since 1983 till date. He knows what he wanted and started early. This led to a key decision he made in November 2011 to sell his families share in De beer to Anglo American and today he is the world largest Diamond producer (De Bees diamond mining company and diamond trading company) He also owns Tswalu Kalahari reserve which is the largest private reserve in South Africa, with a net worth of $6.5 billion. He’s a man who believed in team work and it has paid him well. His courage is worth emulating.
4 Nassef Sawiri
Is an Egyptian businessman and billionaire with a net worth of $7.3 billion dollars according to Forbes in 2014. This means that he is the 183rd richest man in the world and fourth in Africa. He is a BSc holder in Economics, the CEO of Orascom construction industries and a board member of NASDAQ Dubai. He is a director at Lafarge cement and Taxes industries. He is a believer of impossibility.
5. Mike Adenuga
Made his money through chains of businesses in Lagos and beyond. He is a man of little beginning who believes so much in life and hard work. Adenuga does not believe in becoming rich by luck, he once said ‘the harder you work, the luckier you get.’ He owns Globacom telecommunications, the second largest telecommunication operator in Nigeria and an oil firm known as Conoil. He also a stake-holder in former Equatorial trust bank now acquired by Sterling bank. Forbes rank him the 5th richest man in Africa and one of the richest black people in the world. He became rich at a tender age of 26 and since then has never stop despite challenges. His belief that if one door closes a broader one opens has kept him going. His net worth is $4.3billon dollars.
6. Christoeffel Wiese
Is the third richest man in South Africa, 6th in Africa and fortieth in the world. He has a Bachelor of Arts and Science degree from the University of Stellenbosch and he got his LLB in the same university. Wiese is a retailer magnate who deals in the sales of furniture and groceries through stores and is known as Africa’s largest food retailer with store in over 17 African countries
7. Othman Bajelloun
Is from Morocco. He is a business man who values investment in insurance and bank which acclaims him owner of both. His father’s interest in insurance pave way for him to be an insurance magnate. After he purchased and took over the insurance company, he extended his tentacle by venturing in the banking sector. Today he is known in 12 African counties. He is a graduate of Engineering at the Ecole Polytechnic Federale de Lausanne in Switzerland. He is also the chairman of Med- telecom an associate with Telefonica, Portugal. Bajelloun is a member of the world union of Arab Bankers. He is worth $ 3.1 billion ranking him the 7th richest man in Africa.
8. Patrice T. Motsepe
Is a Soweto born mining magnate and founder & executive chairman of African Rainbow Minerals. Being the first and only black South African to be among the world richest black people, his interest in gold raise him to the position of non-executive chairman of Harmony Gold, the 12th largest gold mining company in the world. Motsepe is the chairman of South African Chamber of Commerce and Industries. He is a goal getter. Motsepe is worth $2.9 billion.
9. Naguib Sawiris
Is the second richest man in Egypt and the 9th richest man as far as the African continent is concerned. He is the eldest heir of Onis Sawiris, owner and founder of Orascom Telecoms. His company is Egypt’s largest private sector. Recently, Naguib ventured into politics. Because he is an oppose of the Muslim brotherhood, the newly democratically elected government in Egypt is an opportunity for him to flourish more financially. He is currently worth $2.5 billion.
10. Mohamed Mansour
Is currently the 10th richest African and the 3rd richest man in Egypt. He has a conglomerate that deals in businesses cutting across the automotive, capital market industrial equipment and other things. Although he started from Egypt, his business is cutting across African market. He is currently estimated to worth $2.2billion.
