Being a boss entails lot of hard work as well as focus, it means you have to drive the company forward using initiatives, it means you have to be equipped for the position, you also have to be able to be in control of the organization as well as your staff, you have to know the technical know hows of being a boss, you have to be fair strict and send the message home to your workers always, you have to know how to be the boss!!!
Be result oriented
Being a boss requires you to be result oriented always, you have to understand that before your organization can move forward, you have to show to your subordinates that you are only interested in things that will move your organization forward, this will also make them to sit up and gear up into pushing your organization forward. however, don't put all your focus solely on result, it could be counter productive especially if the workers feel like they are machines and that you don't care about their feelings.

It could be counter productive if you reprimand your worker openly. the worker might end up losing morale for that period as well as infect other workers with his/her behavior. so your best bet? don't scold openly. call the worker aside and reprimand him. don't over react by shouting your head off and creating attention of the other workers.
Carry all your workers along
It is imperative that you carry all your workers along. ensure that you know about their well being and that you also show concern in case they are in any plight.you should also initiate meetings with your staff, this should be periodical and it should aim at understanding and having informal relationship with your workers which can reduce pressure and also 'break the ice' barrier which could lead to fostered ties as well as friendlier work environment in the workplace.
Don't be insentient,complement and give incentives
Give complements to whom you feel due, also roll out incentives that can boost the morale of your workers, this will ensure that they are actively productive and that they also maximize their potentials. even a dog appreciates a pat on the back. ensure that you make your workers happy always by complementing a good job well done, giving incentives so as to boost their Morales, it could also lead to increase productivity, be wise!!!
Feel free among-st your workers, don't feel insecure
For one reason or the other you might want to hold on to yourself and don't mingle well with your subordinates probably because they are your former colleagues or you feel that their level of expertise is intimidating. you are the boss...stop that!!! feel free among your subordinates as this will create an avenue for you to learn more about your job and as well ascertain the performance of each worker. chip in some feel jokes, make your workers your friends as well as your subordinate, just discover the balance!!!
Never listen to rumours
It is quite imperative that you don't listen to rumours especially from your subordinates. it will only show that you are weak and penetrable, ensure that when any worker; who brings in rumour or gist to you about an happening at your back, you call on the accused worker and the rumour monger worker and be made to consolidate what is and what is not. this will ensure that workers will not come meet you again to report to you about a rumour.
Don't be sentimental
It is essential that you are completely devoid of sentiments. if you have to choose a worker for that job, you should do so on the ascertained level of expertise of that worker, not just because the worker is a pretty lady, or because the worker happens to be friendly. ensure that the workers are also devoid of sentiments. this will ensure that there is a good communication in the organization.
Initiate change
As the boss you have to be the one to initiate the changes in your organization. you have to constantly supervise each process and area of your organization, ascertain the ones that needs changes and ensure that you effect the necessary changes. you should be on top of the organization always and ensure that you align the changes in the environment to the changes in the work place.
with these tips above you should be well assure that you are going atop of being your boss!!!
