PHP Tutorial For Beginners - It Starts Here!

Rasmus Lerdolf developed PHP in 1994 for his personal profile, and to monitor his website's traffic. He did  not know he was developing a technique that will enable over 240 million websites today. Hypertext processor (PHP) is a server side scripting language that can also be used as a multi-purpose programming language. PHP can be used in combination with various templates and web frameworks. It could be used on most web servers and almost every operating system (OS). The good thing is; it's free.

The flexibility of PHP has enabled network platforms to build dynamic servers that could be used to create powerful apps.

Using PHP.

While PHP 6 is yet to arrive, PHP 5.6.0 RCI is making waves. But before you download one, you are advised to make a bug test in the bug tracking system. Windows.php.net/qa/. is where you go for downloads.

Every server side technology installation takes a lot of time. And PHP is not different, even though it is easier than other monsters. It is a bit complex when you are using it on non windows platforms like Gentoo and RPM based. On windows, you have to choose between web server (Apache) and native internet services (ISS) Microsoft server. Then you are ready to go to Windows.php.net/qa/ for your downloads.

 Using Databases.

When using windows platform, you need to install a database. MYSQL and postgres have always been available. You can download a version of postgres here postgresql.org/ftp/binary/v8.3.0/ win32. and here for MYSQL. Alternate and easy installation platform is on wampserver.com

After installation.

Setting up your system requires putting a couple of things to their places.

1 PHP authoring environment.

Here, you need a text editor whose concentration will be on Notepad. However, you can get  it online following this link notepad-plus-plus.org But for some  who are new to PHP or coding, an editor with syntax coloring will be ideal.

2 Creating a PHP environment.

Your saved PHP files need  a processing environment, and your browser display output needs to be generated. How to do it-

Every time you make a change an upload is required, therefore, get a PHP support web host to make the upload.

When uploading, you need a personal server, and your computer should be used to set it up. Then upload only the last version of your files.

With this setup, you are close to accomplishing your task, but there are still other things to do.

Download the uniform server here uniformserver.com. Note that this server works for windows OS, but it does not require installation or registry. Just download, and you are ready to go.

Editing your PHP files.

Now that you have generated enough tools to test and edit your PHP files, create a test PHP webpage in "C:/UniSever/www/". Use the Notepad plus plus to edit "PHP test" afterwards, copy the codes. For practical tutorial on how to edit  your PHP test and the code to copy, visit codecademy.com/courses/web-beginner-en-stafq/0/1?

When you have conquered the preceding processes, save it on "C:/UniSever/www/test.php." Use the local host browsers to access the page. If the "hello world" message beams on your screen, it's a success.
